The municipality of The Hague defines volunteer work as follows: unpaid and voluntary work performed for residents of The Hague, which is in the public interest, not for profit, and does not replace paid employment.
For organizations that work with volunteers and wish to qualify for municipal support, it is useful to know the municipality’s policy regarding volunteers. This is all outlined in the memorandum: “Good for each other! The Hague Volunteer Policy 2020-2023.”
The aim of this action program is to further strengthen the volunteer work performed by many residents of The Hague. This is urgently needed, as the need for new volunteers is greater than ever. It also aims to improve appreciation for volunteers and to better promote the positive impact of volunteer work. Furthermore, there is room for improvement in strengthening the collaboration between the city’s volunteer policy and the support for volunteer work in neighborhoods and districts. The main points of this action program were developed in collaboration with key partners from the city and their volunteers. These are:
- Volunteers feel recognized and valued
- New volunteers become active
- Matching supply and demand
- Volunteer organizations receive support
The policy is not yet complete; the implementation is being shaped with municipal partners. Every year, we assess what is successful and what the needs are.
